What is holistic health?

First lets start by breaking down what holistic actually means, holistic refers to looking at things as a whole, specifically the Cambridge Dictionary describes it as ‘dealing with or treating the whole of something or someone and not just a part.’ So holistic health refers to helping your overall health and wellbeing – mind, body and soul – not just that pesky recurring joint pain. There are four key areas of holistic healing; healing the mind, the physical body, your emotions and your spiritual soul. Holistic health aims to balance all of these in harmony and help the person as a whole being.

After all some medical symptoms can actually be rooted in other things. If your doctor has advised you that the chest pain and fatigue you are feeling are symptoms of stress, you will have to make changes to your overall lifestyle to help reduce your stress levels in the long term. This could include looking at eliminating stressors (do you need to find another job that doesn’t have you so stressed?) as well as diet, fitness and positive practices like mindfulness, meditation and Reiki.

How can I become a holistic practitioner?

If you would like to become a holistic practitioner, you should first consider what you feel drawn to. What interests you as person? Do you want to go down the route of holistic healing to help yourself or would you love to help others professionally?

Reiki is an ancient healing modality than was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui at the end of the nineteenth century. You can learn Reiki via online home study. We have a Certified Usui Reiki Master Teacher Home Study Course that takes you through Level 1, 2 and 3 of Usui Reiki. During this course you will learn how to perform Reiki on yourself, your friends and family and professional Reiki clients. If you would like to start a holistic health business this can be a great avenue to explore.

Of course, if you are an animal lover like myself you might also be drawn to Animal Reiki to help our furry, finned and feathered friends achieve a greater overall wellbeing.

Alongside Reiki there are other holistic practices like acupuncture, aromatherapy, ayurvedic medicine, homeopathy, hypnotherapy, meditation, mindfulness, reflexology and yoga.

Is becoming a holistic healer the path for me?

Becoming a holistic healer is a decision only you can make. If you feel called to help others and you have an interest in learning about personal growth, spirituality and the power of the mind and body then you are likely on the right track!

We always tell our Reiki students that learning Reiki is the start of a lifelong journey. Speaking for myself, my journey has been a beautiful one and has helped me through some of the harder parts of life. I’m excited to continue to learn every day.
